Welcome to Flag50
Flag50 is a global initiative honoring the living history and future of the rainbow flag — first raised publicly on June 25, 1978 at UN Plaza in San Francisco.
As we approach the 50th anniversary of the rainbow flag in 2028, Flag50 is working to preserve stories, photography, archives, and voices connected to the movement for LGBTQ+ freedom, dignity, and human rights around the world.
This project also looks ahead to major global milestones including:
- the 50th anniversary of the Rainbow Flag (2028)
- the 80th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
- WorldPride 2028 in Cape Town
- and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games
Featured here are rare photographs captured by James McNamara — photographer, master seamster, and co-creator of the first rainbow flags alongside Lynn Segerblom (Faerie Argyle Rainbow) and Gilbert Baker.
Every purchase directly supports the Troy Perry Legacy Grants, providing assistance to LGBTQ+ individuals and community-led efforts worldwide through Rainbow Advocacy Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
